Studio Spotlight 2020: Frontier Developments
As a great supporter of graduate employment and a long time collaborator across our careers talks and Search For A Star gamedev challenges, it’s a pleasure to welcome Frontier Developments as a studio partner for the 2020/21 academic year!
Frontier is the studio behind Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution, Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster. We are Britain’s biggest independent publisher and developer of video games, based in the midst of a world-leading technology cluster in the historic city of Cambridge, England. Founded in January 1994 we have continued to grow ever since in terms of the number of talented people we employ the games we have been privileged bring to our players and the impact we’ve had on this amazing industry
At Frontier we believe your work should be rewarding in every way. We offer the chance to work on blockbuster franchises and world-leading IP in a modern studio environment. We have recently announced that we have signed a worldwide IP Licence with Games Workshop Group PLC to create a real-time strategy based game on PC, console and streaming platforms for release in financial year 2023 within the globally popular world of Warhammer® Age of Sigmar®. In addition to this, we also have had the pleasure of announcing our multi-year licence deal with Formula 1 with the first game planned to launch in time for the 2022 Formula 1 and our next major release, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is set for release in early 2021.
Frontier believes in its people. We believe your input is instrumental in making games that define genres, receive critical acclaim and capture the imagination of gamers around the world. We take pride in recruiting the best people and in supporting them once they are here. Many people at Frontier joined us as graduates and have developed their careers with us and all of our people share a passion and vision that places both Frontier and the games industry itself at the forefront of global entertainment.
Here at Frontier we understand the importance of well-being for our people and the success of the studio. So whilst we are dedicated and work hard because we love what we do, you won’t find any crunch here. We also invest in wellbeing activities including yoga and mindfulness and there are a wide range of activities which are great to help you settle in and meet new people. Every quarter we host a Frontier Friday where the studio comes together over some food and drinks. These events are a great opportunity to get to know your colleagues, get studio updates from Senior Management, and really feel a part of our community. Since moving to remote working as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic we have continued to support our people via regular video updates, virtual wellbeing sessions, team and company events.
We are a strong advocate for developing future talent and we’re excited to be part of the Search For A Star and Rising Star game development challenges and look forward to seeing the students coming through with Grads in Games.
