We’re looking for experienced games industry professionals to help guide and support Grads In Games across its activities.

If you’d love to get involved as a volunteer supporting the next generation of the games industry, this is an opportunity to pass on your insight and knowledge to those taking their first steps into a career in games.

What could I do as an advocate?

  • Hear about external speaking & collaboration opportunities at colleges and universities
  • Join our L&D workshop sessions and activities, run just for our Advocate network
(e.g. networking, public speaking, critiquing, mentoring, practice talks & presentations)
  • Carry out CV/portfolio reviews at GiG events
  • Be a guest speaker or panellist at our careers events
  • Take part in Q&A sessions with students and academics
  • Review and give feedback on student projects

Why should I do it?

  • A way for you to share your knowledge to help the next generation of games developers
  • Encourage more young people to explore career options across gamedev disciplines
  • Adds to your own learning and self-development through industry-positive activities
  • A low-pressure way to practice and improve upon your own confidence and interpersonal skills
  • Improve your industry connections with peer networking opportunities
  • Become a positive voice for the games industry

Who can be an advocate?

Anyone working professionally in game development can be an advocate. We’re happy to consider and welcome advocates from across any area of the industry, though please be aware that many of our available activities will be within core technical and creative disciplines. The GiG Industry Advocate is a voluntary role, with no fixed expectations or requirements from us — you are free to participate in as much or as little as you are comfortable with.

Our student audience is much more diverse than is typical of the games industry as a whole, particularly across ethnicity, gender & LGBTQ+, neurodiversity and socio-economic backgrounds.

We strongly encourage more professionals from a wide range of backgrounds to consider becoming an advocate, and help to provide a more relatable representation of the game industry for more young people.

If you also match some of the following we’d definitely want to hear from you:

  • Current experience working in a commercial games studio and comfortable talking about working in professional game development
  • An interest in improving general gamedev outreach, education and industry positivity
  • UK-based (not a requirement, but most of our physical events are in the UK)

If you would like to be considered as a GiG Industry Advocate or have a chat with us about the initiative then please fill out the form below.
