Junior Concept Artist

Derby, UK

Skills: 2D Art, Concept Art, Photorealism, Fine Art

Are you a budding Concept Artist, looking to develop further and hone your skills? Are you searching for your first role in the industry where you can really make your mark and create mind-bending photo-realistic art?

I’m looking for a Concept Artist for a brand new project, where you’ll need a strong ability to visualise ideas, concepts and designs.

We’re working with a Midlands studio that’s already made a great impression with their most recent release – a multiplayer, multi-platform FPS – and are looking to build on this success as they move on to their next big games project.

We’re helping them grow their team with fresh, talented people who can help them take this huge leap forward.

You’ll be creating new visions for environments, characters, vehicles and colour profiles, cultivating the overall mood and feel of the game. You should be comfortable listening to ideas and using them to efficiently create draft sketches that you can then discuss in more detail with the team. You’ll also need to be confident at creating high quality concept images based on these discussions; the images you create will be used to inspire the team and help them visualise their own ideas.

Skills that you’ll need:

  • Strong traditional / fine art skills
  • A strong ability to draw in perspective
  • A strong ability to think in three dimensions
  • Great use of light and shadow
  • A good grasp of concept development and design
  • Extensive experience in Photoshop and an understanding of 3D content creation tools

This is a studio who built around nurturing and supporting their staff. It was originally founded (several years ago) by a team of graduates, so they know exactly what it’s like to take your first steps into the games industry.

You’ll be joining a constantly evolving and thriving studio that offers fantastic opportunities to develop your skills further, as well as benefits such a competitive salary, a generous company holiday allowance, plus company events and social clubs.
