Get In The Game Tour Diary: Scotland & North East
Our Get In The Game tour is live, and what a week it’s been!
We began this week in Scotland’s wonderful capital, visiting The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University and Heriot-Watt University.
We had a great turn-out at all three universities, making Edinburgh a fantastic start to the 53 day tour.
It was then on to Glasgow Caledonian University, The University of the West of Scotland and Glasgow School of Art. At Glasgow School of Art we were joined by Daniel Buksh, who currently works there as a 3D Artist. Daniel shared his experience as working as a freelance artist and showed clips from some of the games and projects he’s worked on.
On Thursday we headed to Dundee, where we were joined by Boss Alien’s Thomas Stockx and Outplay Entertainment’s James Law.
Thomas chose to arrive to Scotland in style; in a snazzy purple aeroplane!
Both Thomas and James joined us at Abertay University, where we held both a programming and an art talk. Lead Programmer Thomas talked about Boss Alien’s awesome work culture (including the regular hackathons and free t-shirts!) and described a day in the life of a programmer.
Senior Artist James shared his passion for games art and passed on his wisest words to the students, telling them how they can improve their ‘teachability.’ Students also got to enjoy past sketches and snippets from previous Outplay Entertainment projects.
Thomas joined us again in the afternoon for another programming talk at Scotland’s oldest university, St Andrews!
We finished the week off with Boss Alien at Durham University and the University of Newcastle, with another fantastic turn-out of students for both programming and art talks.
A lucky handful of students at each talk received a goodie bag full of merchandise from EA, Konami, Preloaded, Coatsink, Radiant Worlds & Playground Games!
Thank you to all the speakers and students who joined us this week. Next – we’ll be back on home turf in Yorkshire before heading back up North to Northumbria University.
See you next week!
