Studio Spotlight 2020: NaturalMotion Games
As a great supporter of graduate employment and a long time collaborator across our careers talks and Search For A Star gamedev challenges, it’s a pleasure to welcome Frontier Developments as a studio partner for the 2020/21 academic year!
NaturalMotion have had a huge impact on Grads In Games and Search For A Star, as one of the key studio partners across our initiatives for several years now.
As part of the Zynga family of global studios, NaturalMotion is the leading action games developer. They have a diverse team whose many decades of experience spans PC, console, and mobile games. The team at BossAlien has been instrumental in the creation of genre-defining franchises including Star Wars: The Old Republic, Half-Life, Wolfenstein, Grand Theft Auto, Splinter Cell, Rock Band, CSR: Racing, and more.
In 2018, Zynga announced a multiyear licensing agreement with Disney to develop and publish a new mobile game in the Star Wars universe. Their upcoming Star Wars mobile action-shooter game, codenamed Hunters, is an original, bold, and expansive expression of the Star Wars universe. Since 2018, the team has been honoured to be able to work closely with the partners at Lucasfilm in order to bring their unique vision to life.
NaturalMotion proudly offers all the creature comforts you expect from a premier game developer, including a well-stocked kitchen, free lunch on Mondays, weekly happy hours and a beer tap in the kitchen. They operate as a zero-crunch studio, have a family first attitude, and a laid back working environment. Having fun is an important part of their culture; every year they provide Christmas and Summer parties for employees and their partners. There are plenty of team socials as well, which include cinema trips, laser quest, board game evenings, BBQs and ice skating.
Studio’s within NaturalMotion have had the honour of winning multiple awards over the years, all thanks to the skills and enthusiasm of their incredibly talented teams! Some of these awards include:
- International Gaming Awards – Best Technical Achievement, Dawn of Titans 2017
- Gamesindustry.biz – Best Places to Work 2018
- Gamesindustry.biz – Best Places to Work 2019
- Gamesindustry.biz – Best Places to Work 2020
NaturalMotion believes in harnessing and developing future talent and supporting graduate hires through Grads in Games, and the Search for a Star initiative has been a great way for them to do this!
