Studio Spotlight 2021: Futurlab
FuturLab is a boutique, award-winning game studio based in Brighton, UK. They have developed and published remarkable games on PC and console since 2003. They are best known for Velocity 2X, Tiny Trax, Mini-Mech Mayhem and Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. The team are currently working on Steam Early Access title PowerWash Simulator with Square Enix Collective and an unannounced stylish sci-fi, third-person combat game with Thunderful.
At FuturLab they work hard to maintain a culture of kindness, inclusivity and respect and the wellbeing of their employees is a top priority. They believe that healthy and happy teams create the best games, so they promote a positive working environment with many benefits and zero crunch. Futurlab believe in putting their people first and highly value their talented team of over 40 people from EA, Rocksteady, and Studio Gobo, amongst others.
Over the last 18 months, Futurlab have gone through a tremendous period of growth. They have doubled the size of their studio, employing the most people ever (all remotely), and created new departments such as Marketing and Business Development. The studio is currently headed up by Co-CEOs James Marsden and Kirsty Rigden; however, They have also taken on a new COO whose focus is their people, culture, diversity, and well-being.
As a growing studio, Futurlab understand the importance of working closely with educational institutions to help foster the next generation of game development talent. Although partnering with Grads In Games is something new for the tema, They know from the initiative’s reputation that this is an excellent opportunity to connect with thousands of highly talented graduates.
Behind the scenes, Futurlab are achieving incredible things, with a couple of surprises up thier sleeve; as a result, They will be looking to grow the studio further in 2022!
