Meet the Finalists – VFX
It has been almost 6 months since this year’s Search for a Star started accepting its 1st Round of submissions back in September last year. Now, with Final’s Day almost upon us, we have whittled things down to a handful of amazing finalists.
You have already been able to read about some of the amazing video games veterans who have helped assess this year’s submissions. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be introducing you to the 2018 Search for a Star finalists and giving you a chance to look at their work.
Today, we will introduce you to this year’s VFX finalists:
Graduating this year with a BA (hons) Games Design from UCLan has produced a set of breathtaking fire effects that have really impressed this year’s assessors.
While playing with some classic themes, you can see how Adam has managed to give the effects real life and a feeling of force in the explosions!
You can see even more of Adam’s work here.
Jacob has been studying Computer Games Design at the University of Huddersfield and has certainly bee raising some eyebrows. His Shadow Ord Area-of-Effect spell inspired by the World of Warcraft MMORPG.
All of the judges have agreed that Shadow Orb is not only beautifully executed but also very technically accomplished.
Another University of Huddersfield grad Reece’s Zoomies n Boomies took a different path, compared to the other finalists, with a more cartoony style effect. It is amazing to see someone who describes themselves as, ‘fairly new to creating VFX’ to create something so accomplished. We certainly look forward to seeing what he creates in the future.
Graduating in 2019 it is amazing to see a 2nd Year student competing with final year graduates and masters students.

We are really looking forward to finding out who wins.
