GamesEd19 – Bringing together educators & games industry leaders

February 21, 2019 Martin White 0

The 15th-16th April sees the BGI host the inaugural Games Education Summit, titled GamesEd19 at the National Videogame Museum in Sheffield.

Set over one and a half days the summit will seek to address some of the key challenges faced by both games education and the games industry such as skills shortages, employability, industry diversity, employability, apprenticeships, course design and industry and educator collaboration. Other topics will include technological advancements, industry trends and games production.

GamesEd19 will foster the spirit of co-operation and establish an open dialogue with 40 games course leaders from academic institutions sitting down with games developers, studio HR, specialist games industry recruiters, third sector organisations and policymakers to share thoughts, ideas and best practice.

Grads In Games are proud to be partnering with the summit, as it’s a cause that we share and fully support. Founder Ian Goodall says “There’s always a huge need for more dialogue and collaboration between the games industry and education sectors, and we’ll always give our full support to those working to improve that.”

Philip Oliver, co-chair and co-organiser of the Summit, said: “The Industry needs additional talent, especially as attracting overseas talent becomes harder due to Brexit. So we need to embrace and support educators, to ensure that the next generation of developers are not only inspired, but that they are taught what is required by industry and are able to arrive ‘job ready.”

We’ll be covering GamesEd19 in more detail over the coming weeks, in the meantime more information can be found on the BGI’s website and discounted early bird tickets are now available here.
