Studio Spotlight 2019-20: Sumo Digital
Founded back in 2003, Sumo Digital have since grown to eight studios worldwide! The most recent addition to their team being Sumo Warrington in the North West. This new location is headed up by Scott Kirkland, a BAFTA nominated developer with 23 years of industry experience. Their India-based studio, Sumo Pune, celebrates its thirteen-year anniversary in 2020.
As supporters of our game dev challenges since 2015, Sumo Digital have frequently supported the Grads in Games initiative, even touring with us as guest speakers, to universities across the UK, on our Get in the Game careers and guidance talks.
They are one of the leading games development studios in the UK and work with a range of high-profile clients on a catalogue of popular cross-platform titles. This includes LittleBigPlanet 3, Hitman, Team Sonic Racing, Disney Infinity and Crackdown 3. The studio has also spent time developing its own IP with Snake Pass.
The studio has won multiple awards for its work, including the DICE award for Best Family Game for LittleBigPlanet 3 and the TiGA award for Best Independent Studio 2019.
They are a strong advocate for developing future talent and improving the perception of graduate hires. In addition to their own work towards placement schemes and student outreach, they are the lead partner for the Rising Star gamedev challenges, offering students an opportunity to intern at their studio.
