Take part in one of the biggest industry-supported game dev competitions in the UK

Applications are now open for the 2017 editions of Search For A Star & Sumo Digital Rising Star. These industry-backed competitions give students the opportunity to prove their talents across a series of challenges, get a direct insight into the level of quality demanded by studios, and potentially come out of it with a job or internship with a leading UK studio.

The 2017 competitions are open to games programmers, 3D artists, animators & VFX artists.

Showcase your skills in front of leading studios.

Getting your first break in the games industry can be incredibly tough, but Search For A Star is an excellent way of improving your opportunities. Through the competition you will get a chance to take part in challenges modelled on actual industry processes, develop a portfolio piece to a professional brief, and gain invaluable direct insights from games professionals. Each stage of the competition is developed & assessed by games professionals representing UK studios. This is a unique opportunity for you to show your skills directly to those in the industry.

Create work to a professional brief

As part of the second round of the competition, you will get to develop either a game prototype or art assets & publish the finished product. These projects are designed and judged by games professionals, with you working from an industry-level brief to accomplish the task to a strict deadline.

Boost towards a career in games.

The winners of each competition will receive unique chances to work with our partner studios, either as part of an internship, or in a full-time developer role.

For 2017, we are working with Playground Games (Forza Horizon series), Sumo Digital (LittleBigPlanet3, Crackdown 3, Dead Island 2) & Boss Alien (CSR Racing, CSR Classics) as studio partners, alongside our development partners Furious Bee, Edge Case Games (Fractured Space) & GaaSworks.

Which competition is right for you?

Both competitions offer opportunities for coders and artists, but are split based on your graduation year:

Search For A Star

For students graduating in 2017, or postgraduate students.
The Grand Prize is a job opportunity with one of our partner studios.

Sumo Digital Rising Star

For students graduating in 2018 or later.
The Grand Prize is an internship opportunity with Sumo Digital.
