Studio Spotlight 2021: Fireproof Games

November 11, 2021November 11, 2021 Harry Stainer 0

Fireproof Games are an independent games studio living and working in the buzzing videogame hub of Guildford, UK. They are best known for their award-winning puzzle series ‘The Room’ on mobile / PC and ‘The Room VR: A Dark Matter’ for major VR platforms. Collectively these games have sold more than 18 million copies and this success allows Fireproof Games to remain small enough to feel like an indie studio but with the stability and security of a much larger company.

Today they are a growing team of 20 designers, programmers and artists dedicated to carving a flourishing path in the industry working on novel games that they believe in. As a creative team they take pride in producing finely tuned and visually beautiful videogames with a degree of craftsmanship that can sit with the output of the great developers they admire.

The mindset when approaching development is less as game developers and more as game fans: Fireproof builds projects that excite them as players first, ideas they feel successfully tap into the essential joys that all gamers seek. As a creative team they feel a duty to make their titles accessible to a wide audience while also nurturing some uniqueness, believing this helps their work stand out in a tough and crowded market.

Fireproofs riverside studio in Guildford is a modern, open space keeping a relaxed atmosphere with free drinks & snacks, stand up desks, a gaming area, reference library, pool table and fantastically comfy chairs. They like their working day as uncomplicated as possible, keeping an open-plan office where meetings are limited to allow staff to collaborate and get on with the fun stuff. They support this by ensuring a healthy work/life balance using a few key rules: They have flexible working hours, They don’t work late and most importantly, They don’t crunch.

As a fully independent developer Fireproof’s titles are self-funded and self-published, keeping them free from the demands outside influences can randomly bring. Internally, as a developer-controlled studio their team benefits from an ease and speed to decision making that helps navigate the jolly but chaotic journey of creating a hit game.

Today in 2021 they are working on a brand new title that isn’t quite ready to be talked about publicly yet but it does require new people and new team members. Alongside these vacancies they’re always interested in speaking to exceptional people. From the freshly graduated to the more experienced developer, whether you’re into programming, design or art, please don’t hesitate to contact the team if you think you’ve got something they need to know about.
